Miniature Poodle
๐ง Temperament & character
The Miniature Poodle is lively, teachable and affectionate, while being attentive and easy to motivate. He is very people-oriented, likes to work together with his family and learns new tasks at an astonishing pace. As a watchful dog he announces anything unfamiliar, but is rarely aggressive and usually good-natured with children and other dogs. His bright nature calls for activity, for an under-challenged Miniature Poodle can be inclined to nervousness and barking.
๐ Origin & history
Like all poodle varieties, the Miniature Poodle goes back to the French water retriever that flushed and retrieved waterfowl; France is the breed's patron country. Through deliberate downsizing of the original type, the Medium, Miniature and Toy Poodles gradually emerged. Especially at the French court and among the European middle classes the smaller poodles were valued as elegant companion dogs. Today the Miniature Poodle is a companion dog popular worldwide that also shines in dog sport.
โ๏ธ Grooming, care & training
The Miniature Poodle's curly coat sheds hardly at all, but must be clipped every six to eight weeks and brushed regularly in between to prevent matting. As a highly intelligent dog he needs daily mental activity, whether through training, search games or dog sport such as agility and obedience. His need for exercise is moderate to lively; plenty of walks and active play keep him balanced. Thanks to his extraordinary eagerness to learn he is one of the easiest dogs to train and ideal for anyone who enjoys shared activity.
๐ฉบ Health
The Miniature Poodle is regarded as a robust breed with a pleasingly high life expectancy of thirteen to sixteen years. The breed-typical risks include patellar luxation, eye diseases such as PRA and cataract, and dental problems. Responsible breeders have the eyes and knee joints examined and use available genetic tests to avoid hereditary diseases. Regular dental care and weight control additionally contribute to a long, healthy dog's life.
๐ก Who is this breed right for?

In Switzerland he is a popular all-rounder who convinces both as a family dog and in dog sport.
