The Grand Anglo-Français Blanc et Orange is enduring, keen-nosed and endowed with a strong pack instinct. On the trail it shows itself to be independent, fond of running and passionate. In the pack it is compatible and balanced, but comes into its own most strongly in a joint hunt. It needs an experienced hand equal to its independence.
📜 Origin & history
The Grand Anglo-Français Blanc et Orange arose, like its relatives, from crossing French pack hounds with the English Foxhound. It was recognised as a separate breed in 1957, but is the smallest in number of the three large Anglo-Français. Its breeding is almost entirely confined to specialised hunting packs in France.
✂️ Grooming, care & training
The short white and orange coat of the Grand Anglo-Français Blanc et Orange is uncomplicated, while the long ears and joints should be checked regularly. As a pack hound it needs a great deal of exercise, enduring runs and extensive occupation for the nose. It is happiest in the company of other dogs and with a hunting task. Its independence makes consistent training essential.
🩺 Health
The Grand Anglo-Français Blanc et Orange is a robust but very rare pack breed with a life expectancy of about ten to twelve years. The long ear leathers require regular ear care, and with these active dogs attention must be paid to the joints. In view of the very small population, responsible, broadly based breeding is of particular importance. Healthy, work-capable parent animals are the priority here.
🏡 Who is this breed right for?
The Grand Anglo-Français Blanc et Orange is a pure hunting and pack dog and hardly suited to keeping as a family or apartment dog. It needs extensive exercise, genuine hunting occupation and the company of its own kind. Because of its rarity it is found practically only among specialised hunters in France. In Switzerland it is effectively not encountered.
